Colorado Christian Summer Camp Wilderness Adventure Programs
The bulk of your trip is focused on your groups' personal goals and the Lord Jesus Christ. As the Base Camp of the Rockies seeks to serve through ministry, we will provide an environment for worship and Bible study. The guide staff will consider it an honor to share their Christ-centered testimony and/or draw out the spiritual lessons to be learned throughout a day at camp. Adventure Experiences considers it their responsibility to provide your group with devotionals and Scriptural teaching; however, your group is welcome to bring its own theme and teaching materials to camp. We will gladly assist your program in any way. (Faith Statement)
Adventure Experiences seeks to provide safe and professional program options as a platform from which to effect eternal change. Backpacking
Located at the very base of the Continental Divide, there is no better place to schedule a true backpacking experience than the Base Camp of the Rockies. Depart for your journey directly from the facility, and venture out into the thousands of acres of Forest Service and Wilderness. Adventure Experiences will equip your group with all of the necessary equipment to make the trip successful. During your trip, the guide staff will model ecological stewardship and teach your group the Leave No Trace camping ethic. Backpacking is rewarding, awe inspiring, and unforgettable. The people in your group will be stretched and will grow through this very challenging experience. A mountain peak ascent between 13000' and 14000' is often a part of any Backpacking trip. Guide staff will choose a route that will be within the abilities of everyone in your group. Adventure Experiences highly recommends scheduling a minimum of three days in the back country to have the most positive experience; however, trips of any length are available.

Rock Climbing
As seen on T.V., this is the real thing! Challenge your group with actual rock faces up tp 100 feet tall. We can set up rock climbing for all ability levels- from beginner to expert. The Base Camp of the Rockies utilizes many different Rock Climbing sites as permitted by the U.S Forest Service. Your Rock Climbing adventure may never be the same twice; however, because of permitting, space may be limited. Adventure Experiences will equip your group with all of the necessary equipment, including rock climbing shoes. Some Rock Climbing sites allow for rappelling too. On rock? Rock on!

Adventure Racing
Are Survivor, Eco Challenge, and/or The Amazing Race popular with your group? If so, Adventure Racing at the Base Camp of the Rockies should not be left out. After being taught the very basics of map and compass, your group is divided into small teams for a little bit of friendly competition. The Adventure Race begins with teams going in different directions to find markers placed within the Base Camp's 1000 acres. Once a marker is found, a Guide staff (one who shadows the group to make sure no one actually becomes lost or to provide any necessary first aid) arrives on the scene to present the team with a challenge. Challenges can be of the physical nature or mental capacity. A teams' success in the Adventure Race is directly related to how well they complete each challenge. Just a sneak peek, people are going to get wet!

There are varying degrees of difficulty along different stretches of the river, and trips can be scheduled to accomodate all ability levels. The Mega Tower at the Base Camp of the Rockies is unsurpassed in size across the country. Day Hike
Adventure Experiences Base Camp of the Rockies has been blessed with the resource of natural beauty created by God's hand. Schedule a day exploring the many existing trails and destinations surrounding camp. Each Day Hike is chosen based on the goals and abilities of the individuals within your group. Peak Assault
A literal mountain top experience, the Peak Assault is a one day attempt on one of the surrounding mountain peaks between 11000' and 13000' elevation. A Peak Assault is physically demanding with people often stating, "This is the hardest thing I have ever done". Talk about an opportunity for individual and group growth! Somehow the "Top of the world" seems to ease the pain that may have been endured on the way up. The group will begin the challenge with an early morning departure from the Base Camp, sometimes as early as 5 a.m. With the goal being an attempt on the peak summit, the best opportunities to reach the top with safe weather conditions come early in the day. Once the Peak Assault comes to completion, an exhilarating 360 degree view is enjoyed, and group pictures are taken. This one day program should not be left out of any trip.

Orienteering
When was the last time you needed to ask for directions? Existing in the backcountry requires the basic knowledge of using a traditional compass and topographical maps. Your group will be taught how to make these tools work to find their way through the woods, and possibly, their way home. Consider the metaphors contained in Orienteering. The map will offer you written direction in life- the compass, guidance. Participants will have an opportunity to test their new skill on our extensive Orienteering course. Orienteering is often done in a half day format and built upon later, possibly on a backpacking trip.

Mission Opportunities
Adventure Experiences has been given a vision for preparing groups for the mission field. For years, the programs at our facility have often been utilized as a reward or refresh trip for those that may have just taken part in missions. However, what type of effect do you suppose a team building, comfort zone stretching trip would have on your group's ability to be effective when they arrive in the mission field? The staff at Adventure Experiences would consider it an honor to partner with you as your group prepares to serve others through missions. An increasing number of groups have also sought to do local missions during their stay at the Base Camp. We would be happy to assist your group in finding an area of shout or service in the surrounding Gunnison/Crested Butte area.
